Important Information Regarding Oral Surgical Procedures
Before every procedure, all our patients receive an individualized digital information sheet. Each sheet also contains a corresponding leaflet summarizing the most important guidelines for behavior before and after the procedure – allowing you to review the instructions at any time and prepare for the procedure with confidence.
In our FAQ section, we answer the most frequently asked questions about referrals, procedures, anesthesia, and aftercare – concisely and understandably. For any questions, we at IMPLA·VIO are, of course, also personally available to you at any time.
Can I receive a non-binding consultation for dental implant treatment?
Yes, with a referral, you can schedule an appointment for a non-binding consultation at any time. We look forward to meeting you and, if necessary, will create an individual treatment plan together with your dentist. This does not oblige you to anything. Upon request, you will receive a surgical cost estimate. Please note: Certain consultations are private services and are not covered by statutory health insurance.
What about other oral surgical treatments?
Every oral surgical treatment is preceded by a preliminary discussion, including comprehensive information. Afterwards, you are welcome to schedule a surgical appointment.
Do I need a referral from my dentist?
Yes. Please bring a referral or a referral card with your dentist’s desired treatment proposal. Based on this, we will coordinate the further procedure closely with the referring practice and jointly develop a tailored treatment plan for you.
What should I bring to the consultation appointment, and what are the next steps after the consultation?
Please bring your insurance card and, if you are privately insured, your ID card, as well as any current X‑rays, relevant reports, and a list of your medications. We will provide you with an individualized treatment plan and, upon request, a surgical cost estimate or an agreement for additional costs. If you decide to proceed with the surgery, you can schedule the appointment directly at the practice or by phone. Surgical appointments cannot be booked via our online appointment tool.
How can I best prepare for the surgical procedure?
- Wear comfortable clothing that you feel good in.
- Brush your teeth thoroughly again before the appointment.
- Avoid caffeinated beverages and do not take blood-thinning medications, or only do so in consultation with your doctor.
- Arrive as well-rested as possible – for procedures under sedation or general anesthesia, please fast, as instructed.
- For procedures under sedation or general anesthesia, you will need an escort for your journey home.
- Allow sufficient time for recovery.
What steps does the treatment involve, and how is the process structured?
Our treatments – whether in implantology, periodontal surgery, or oral surgery – follow a structured plan with individualized care. Each treatment course is unique and is based on your initial condition and therapeutic goal. Below, is an outline of an exemplary process for implant treatment:
- Initially, we conduct a personal consultation, clarify your medical history, and use modern 3D imaging for precise diagnostics. Based on this, we discuss treatment options together and create an individually tailored treatment plan with a cost estimate.
- Implant placement is performed with the aid of computer-assisted 3D planning. This allows the procedure to be conducted safely and minimally invasively – under local anesthesia and, if desired, under sedation or general anesthesia.
- The implant usually heals into the jawbone within three to six months. A gentle surgical technique promotes the healing process. After complete healing and implant exposure by us, your general dentist will manage the fabrication and placement of the dental prosthesis, e.g., a crown, bridge, or denture.
What should I consider after the surgical procedure?
- Rest! Please avoid physical exertion and sports for a few days.
- On the day of the procedure, avoid hot food and drinks if possible. Do not eat while the local anesthetic is still active (approx. 2–3 hours).
- Smoking can also impair the healing process – please refrain from it for at least 24 hours.
- After the procedure, regularly cool your cheek from the outside to prevent swelling. Wrap a cold pack in a towel to protect your skin from the cold.
What forms of anesthesia do you offer?
Depending on the procedure and personal needs, we offer three forms of anesthesia:
- Local anesthesia is a regional anesthetic that only affects the direct surgical area. It is suitable for outpatient oral surgical procedures and allows you to leave the practice independently afterwards.
- Intravenous sedation (twilight sleep) provides deep relaxation. You remain conscious but experience the procedure calmly and stress-free.
- General anesthesia is performed in collaboration with an experienced anesthesiologist, with whom you will have a detailed informational discussion beforehand. You will sleep throughout the entire procedure and will be professionally monitored and cared for.
Depending on the chosen form of anesthesia, you should consider the following points when preparing for the procedure:
- Local Anesthesia
Please arrive well-nourished for your appointment. To avoid accidental injury, do not eat after the procedure if the anesthesia is active. - Sedation (Twilight Sleep)
Please do not eat for 4 hours beforehand, and only consume still water for 2 hours beforehand. Arrange for an escort to pick you up after the procedure. - General Anesthesia
Remain fasted for 6 hours before the procedure – this applies to food, drink, and smoking. A small amount of still water, sipped, is permitted. Please also note any specific instructions from the anesthesia team, as these may individually deviate from general recommendations. Arrange for an escort to accompany you home in good time.
Is a partial payment agreement possible for private services?
Yes, under certain conditions, you can arrange a partial payment agreement with our billing service provider. Please contact Medical CareCapital directly for this.
