Changes in the Oral Lining
Diagnostics and Surgical Therapy of Mucosal Findings
Changes in the oral mucosa occur frequently – ranging from harmless irritation and benign growths to precancerous lesions requiring treatment or, rarely, malignant changes. To clarify uncertain findings, we perform a biopsy or a trial excision (surgical removal) at our oral surgery practice in Berlin-Friedenau. This allows the tissue to be examined histologically and a reliable diagnosis to be made. The excision is usually performed under local anesthesia.
Mucogingival Procedures and Tissue Grafts
Certain changes in the oral mucosa – for example on the inner cheeks or under the tongue – as well as disruptive mucosal bands or restrictions in the movement of the lips or tongue may require a minor surgical correction. These mucogingival procedures are part of our range of pre-prosthetic surgery and aim to improve tissue mobility or prevent irritation.
In particular cases, the harvesting and transplantation of mucosa or connective tissue may also be necessary – for example, to replace defective areas or for functional improvement after the removal of tissue lesions. We usually harvest such mucosal grafts or connective tissue grafts intraorally and prepare them individually for the recipient site.
