Peri-Implantitis Treatment

Detect and Treat Inflammation Around Implants Early

With dental implants, inflammatory changes can occur in the surrounding tissue—so-called peri-implantitis. This form of peri-implant inflammation is comparable to periodontitis, which is also triggered by bacterial colonization. If left untreated, peri-implantitis can break down the bone around the dental implant and, over time, lead to loss of the implant.

Inflammation around the implant (peri-implant disease) is often noticed at a late stage by the patient, as it frequently develops gradually and without pain. Risk factors such as smoking, systemic diseases, teeth grinding, or inadequate oral hygiene can promote the development of inflammation. Regular check-ups, professional teeth cleaning, and X‑rays are therefore crucial to safeguard the long-term health of the implant and the surrounding tissue.

Targeted Therapy for Long-Term Implant Preservation

At IMPLA·VIO in Berlin, we rely on structured diagnostics to detect peri-implantitis early and treat it in a targeted manner. Depending on the severity, treatment is either conservative, for example, through cleaning, irrigation, and the use of local antiseptics—or surgical, with access to the implant surface. If necessary, bone regeneration is performed to specifically rebuild the weakened jawbone.

In our practice in Berlin-Friedenau, we use gentle procedures and modern technology to effectively control the inflammation and preserve the implant. The development of stable, inflammation-resistant tissue can be supported by accompanying soft-tissue management.
