Pre-prosthetic surgery
Surgical Preparation for Dentures and Prosthetic Treatment
For dentures to fit reliably and last a long time, the surrounding tissue must be optimally prepared. Pre-prosthetic surgery includes surgical measures to correct the shape of the mucosa, connective tissue, and jawbone—always with the aim of improving denture retention, preventing pressure sores, and ensuring long-term functional and aesthetic stability. Pre-prosthetic surgery at our practice in Berlin-Friedenau includes, among other procedures, vestibuloplasty to deepen the oral vestibule and alveolar ridge correction for irregular bony conditions. Tuberoplasty may also be necessary if bothersome bony protrusions in the upper jaw need to be removed.
Oral Surgery—Functionally Tailored to Prosthetic Treatment
In cases of excessive, mobile soft tissue—the so-called flabby ridge—we perform a targeted excision (removal). Surgical crown lengthening may also be required to expose sufficient tooth structure for restoration with a crown or bridge. Removing a low-attaching or tightly stretched labial frenum can also significantly improve the fit of dentures and make them easier to care for.
