Root-End Surgery
Minimally Invasive Procedure for Long-Term Tooth Preservation
During an apicoectomy (root end surgery), the inflamed tip of a tooth root is surgically removed. This prevents bacteria from spreading to the jawbone and causing bone loss and tooth loss. At IMPLA·VIO in Berlin, we perform root end surgery when conventional root canal treatment has not led to the desired healing success – for example, in cases of chronic inflammation, cysts, or complex anatomical conditions. The goal of an apicoectomy is to preserve the natural teeth. In our practice in Berlin-Friedenau, we perform the procedure under local anesthesia – precisely and gently.
Retrograde Filling for a Secure, Bacteria-Tight Seal
During an apicoectomy, the inflamed root tip is removed through a small access in the bone, and the affected area is thoroughly cleaned. To prevent bacteria from re-entering, a retrograde root filling is then performed. The root canal is sealed from the tip with a biocompatible filling material, ensuring a dense, permanent seal. Thanks to modern imaging and minimally invasive techniques, the procedure at IMPLA·VIO in Berlin can be precisely planned and gently carried out – always keeping our goal in mind: long-term tooth preservation.
